John Mohn 1850-1857 Germany

I would like to find when John Mohn (my great-grandfather) arrived in America and from where. I am not having much luck, but this much I do know:

1857: He signed a Declaration of Intent U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan

1857: Married Wilhelmina Fisher (father Jacob, mother unknown. According to family tales she came by herself at age 16 from Germany to New York was treacherous)

1867: Admission to Citizenship U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan

1880 Federal Census Detroit 3rd Ward
age 46
Wilhelmina: age 45
Dora 20
Frederick 16 (my grandfather)
John 12

A German researcher who was following another family surname mentioned that there were Mohn's in a certain area of Germany who followed the trade of surgeons/ surgeon barbers generation after generation. In Michigan he was a machinist. I understand that some Mohns spell their name "Mann" but that is not the way he signed the two papers above, nor the way they appeared in the 1880 census. Nevertheless, I have been looking up Manns as well.

Any information on this John Mohn or Wilhelmina Fisher would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Christine Huebner
