Earlier this year I posted a Moon/Mohn chronology, based on documentation I’ve found and information from this board. The intent was to track the known locations of Abraham Moon and Vernor Mohn in hopes of finding a connection somewhere for them. With the help of John Knisely, Gregg Moon, Dennis Moon, Shari Moon Knaust and several others, I have revised the chronology to include some of the recent information. Please review the following and if you
have any documentation you would like to share, please send it to me at, or you could mail it to me at P.O. Box 321246, Cocoa Beach, Florida 32932-1246.

1700 Johann Michael Crowl/Grauel was born in Langenselbold, Hesse, Germany and died in 1778 in Straban Twp. York (Now Adams County Pa.

1700 Johannes Mohn born in Germany and died 9/1764 in Pa.

1720 Johann (John) Hendrich (Henry) Six Jr. was born to Johann Heinrich John Henry) Sixt in Schoharie County NY. The senior Sixt is from Marienfels, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. The jr. is the father of Abraham’s first wife, Sohpia.

1726 Vernor/Werner Mohn born in Germany to Johannes & Anna Margaretha (Hack) Mohn. .

1729 Anna Catarina Crowl/Grauel born in Germany.

8/27/1733 Verner Mohn at the age of 6 was on the ship Elizabeth’s registry and arrived at Berks County Pa. along with Johannes Mohn, Johan Michael Crowl (or Crowley, Gauel, Gaul or Grauel) and they all came from Langeselbold, Hesse, Germany. Also on the ship was Johan Michael Crowl/Grauel’s daughter named Anna Catarina Crowl/Grauel who was 3. I understand that Anna and her brother Conrad may have died during the
trip but their parents may have had other children and named them Anna Catarina and Conrad as well.

1736 Another Johan Michael Grauel arrived on the Ship Harle.

1737 The Mohns settled in Cumru at what is now called Mohn’s Hill, in Spring Township, Berks County.

1740 Another Caterina Crowl/Grauel was born to Johan Michael Crowl/Grauel and Anna Maria Crowl/Grauel. This may have been the Catherina who later married Verner Mo (Mohn)?

1752 Werner Mohn is taxed as a married man in Cumru Twp, Berks County Pa.

1759/1760 George Mohn was born in Pa.

9/1764 One researcher has Johannes Mohn dying at this time. Was this Johannes Verner Mohn’s father?

1770 A deed on record in Berks County Court House has a sheriff sale in 1770 for property purchased by Werner in 1768 from the Conrad Weiser estate in what was then Heidelberg Township, Berks County. In the deed, Werner was described as being deceased. (I don’t have any documentation to support this deed, just a message from a Mohn researcher)

4/61771 Abraham Moon/Mohn born (no location or parents identified)

1772-74 “The Index to the Tithables of Loudoun County, 1758-1786" finds Warner
(Varner) Moon on the list.

1778 Johan Michael Crowl/Grauel died in Straban Twp. in Adams County PA. In his will he mentioned his daughter Catherine and her husband Vernon Mo(????). Was this his daughter Anna Catharina who was born at
Langenselbold in 1729 or the younger daughter born in 1740?

1782 “The Index to the Tithables of Loudoun County, 1758-1786" finds Warner
(Varner) Moon on the list.

3/6/1785 Sarah Moon married Johannes Meyer at the Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Frederick, Frederick County Md. Sarah was possibly born in 1759 to John (Johannes) Moon (Mohn)?

10/22/1786 Solomon Mohn (listed as Mon) was born to Sarah Mohn and christened 11/19/1786 at the New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lovettsville, Loudoun, Va.

1786 “The Index to the Tithables of Loudoun County, 1758-1786" finds Warner
(Varner) Moon on the list.

1786 Mary Hull Born to Benjamin Hull and Jemima King. Benjamin Hull settled early in Maryland. He was one of the first settlers in Cumberland before 1800. Records in Momney, Hampshire County Va., across the
Potomoac River, opposite Cumbland, show grants of land there to Benjamin.

1787 George Moon is found in the Pa. archives tax record for Northumberland
County Va. He was listed next to John (Johannes??) Moon, who is believed to be George’s grandfather? If this was the case, the earlier report of Johannes’ death in 1764 would not be correct.

1787 From “The Personal Property Tax Lists for the year 1787 for Loudoun County Va, Verner Moon is taxed for 3 horses and 5 cattle.

1788 From “The Personal Property Tax Lists for the year 1787 for Loudoun County Va, Verner Moon is taxed for 1 horse. George Moon was responsible for no property.

10/25/1789 Abraham Mohn took communion at New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

1790 Pennsylvania Census: Berks County, Brecknock Township had Mohn, Ludwig, Ju(r) and Mohn, Ludwig, Sen(r) on the roles

4/81791 Birth of Johann, second son of Sarah at the New Jerusalem Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Lovettsville, Loudoun, Va.

5/8/1791 Via microfilm at the LDS Family History Center, references are made to
Abraham Mohn taking communion at the New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lovettsville, Loudoun County Virginia. Lovettsville is on the Virginia state border with Frederick County Maryland. Also
taking communion that day and listed right next to Abraham is Johannes Moon?

1793 George and Ruth Anna Mohn are found in Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Va. His two oldest children, Johannes (b. 1791) and Jacob (b. 1793) were christened at the New Jerusalem Evangelical and Reformed Lutheran
Church. According to Gregg Moon, George and Ruth were also tracked back to Butler County Pa in the early 1790s.

1796 Vernor/Werner Mohn died. (No location identified)

4/4/1797 Johannes Moon (listed as Man) born to Abraham Moon (Man) and Sophia Six. In the LDS FHC Abraham is listed on one of the films as Abraham Man. He was listed in the Apples Lutheran and Reformed Church, Thurmont, Frederick, Maryland. John was listed as Johannes S. Man. He was christened on May 4, 1797.

10/26/1798 George Moon born to Abraham Moon/Mohn and Sophia Six.

10/7/1799 At Sophia Six Moon’s fathers death (Henry Six), Abraham and sons John
and George are listed in court records in Frederick County Maryland.

1799 John Henry Six died on 10/7/1799 in Frederick County Md and is buried there.

1799 Abraham’s first wife, Sophia Six from Frederick County Maryland, died and he remarried Mary Hull. Mary’s father was one of the early settlers in Cumberland, Maryland before 1800. Abraham and Mary are listed in Benjamin Hull’s will in about 1809. Land grants were given to Benjamin
in Romney, Hampshire County Va (now WVA) across the Potomac River from Cumberland, Md.

9/8/1800 In Benjamin Hull’s will of this date, Mary Hull and Abraham Moon are named. Benjamin apparently died in 1809.

6/25/1804 The will of a Jacob Moon was found in Berkeley County and it named Jacob’s wife and children. (I’m not sure if this is related?)

1804-5 Abraham Moon was on the roll of Allegany County Md and assessed in District No. 1 with personal property with the value of $128.00. Jacob Moon was on the assessment roll of Glades Hunderd and was assessed with personal property valued at $100.00.

1804 (Approximate) Abraham settled in the Great Backbone area of Garrett County near Gorman, Md.

1809 A George Moon/Mohn is found in Butler County Pa.

1810 Abraham Moon was listed in the census of Garrett or Allegany County Md. as head of a family of ten.

1810 Jacob, a possible brother of Abraham, was listed in Garrett or Allegany County Md. as head of a family of seven.

1810 John Mohn (Son of George ? changed around this time to Moon) married Elizabeth Clapper and they were in Stark County Ohio.

2/6/1813 The heirs of James C. Goff deeded for $120.00, 159 acres of land to Jacob
Moon. This was the Jacob Moon homestead at the foot of the Great Backbone mountains about one mile southeast of Red House, Md.

1815 Abraham moved to Glady Creek in what is now Marion County (Then Monongalia County Va) WVA. His children Benjamin through Garrett were born there, while his older children George, Jacob & Sarah, all married in Monongalia County.

UNK The first known reference to where Abraham lived in the book “Pioneer Families of Garrett County”. According to the book, Abraham lived 12 miles outside of Morgantown, WVA prior to moving to Allegany County Maryland.

1818 Abraham bought 125 acres on Glady Creek from William Trickett & Wife.

1820 Abraham is on the census in Mononglia County.

6/6/1829 Abraham sold the 125 acre Glady Creek tract to William Smith.

1830 Abraham is on the census for Allegany County (Garrett) county records
this year.

7/4/1836 Abraham Moon was deeded military lots totaling 200 acres from Michael Wilson. The land was patented by Wilson in 1826. Abraham had probably lived on the land years before he obtained the deed. His log house was near the present Bethlehem Church at the spring on the farm now owned by R. Menke. (Since the writing of the book, the property has been divided and sold many times)

1847 Abraham Moon died in Garrett County Maryland without a will.

1850 Jacob Moon is alive at age 86 with his wife Rebecca who is 76 on the 1850 Allegany County Md. Census, with Mary Hull Moon, widow of Abraham in a separate household.
