Moir book and my research
Hello, my name is Lt(jg) Alexander Moir, USN. I'm from Huntington, Long Island, NY. A brief genealogy for those interested first: son of John, son of John, son of Robert, son of James...whose father's name I don't know but James's father was from Glasgow.
My dad does have the Moir Genealogy book by the guy with the awesome name ;-) and I remember skimming through it with fascination as a kid. He and I have been engaged for some years now in trying to find out the connection between the Templar knights of the Crusades and the Scotish Moirs. There are some striking data indicating a connection between Reginald de la More (a pre-cursor name to the current Moir name) and Robert Bruce and Williams Sinclair of Rosslyn (builder of the famous chapel). We've written to many organizations in Glasgow and Aberdeen and can find nothing other than indications that the Bruce entrusted significant land to Reginald (and we all know the Bruce was a benefactor of the Templars even after the pope excommunicated them). In any case, we've mostly accepted that we'll probably have to settle for guesswork, but we're proud to carry this name and the bold crest of the three Moorish heads.
Anyway, if my genealogy info or my Templar research can be bolstered or even debunked, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I hope to see some comments. My best to all.
Virtute Non Aliter,
Alex
