Hi Michelle:
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
For Denis Monaghan B 1881 (exact), Manorhamilton district, Co. Leitrim, with a father forenamed Pat(rick), I found 1 rcd.
For Pat(rick) Monaghan B 1879 +/- 2 yrs, ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1879.
For Pat(rick) Monaghan M 1875 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Leitrim, I found 1 rcd in 1878, Manorhamilton, but 0 in Lurganboy.
For Cat(herine) Monaghan M ditto, I found 17 rcds, but none matching that for Patrick.
For Pat(rick) Monaghan B 1854 +/- 2 yrs, Co. Leitrim, with a father forenamed John, I found 1 rcd, Manorhamilton Marriage Banns.
For John Monaghan M 1853 +/- 1 yr, Co. Leitrim, I found 6 rcds, with 3 in Manorhamilton Marriage Banns, and 1 in Killasnet RC parish.
For Bri(dget) MacHugh M ditto, I found 8 rcds, with 4 in Manorhamilton Marriage Banns, and 1 in Killasnet.
For Mat(ilda) Rooney/Runian M ditto, I found 0 rcds.
For John Monaghan B 1830 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Leitrim, with the father's forename unknown, I found 0 rcds. However, there are 2 in 1835. This would have made the marriage age very young. The father's forenames were both James.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
