Moncur of Australia and NZ circa 1820
posting this for my cousen in NZ who has just caught the family tree bug
Our Moncur line from Kinross arrived in NZ Auckland April 1884 on
the "Rangitikei"andhis grand Dad was told they were met at Auckland by a Maori woman.
Who was she??
My cousen find he is already off on a tangent
who was the Maori woman was she related
his researches threw up this
>>James Moncur who had a sister Elizabeth (who lived
in Sydney) about 1830's. He was a trader who traded between Aust./NZ from
1825 onwards. The traders were given Maori women to encourage them to trade
andJames was given a Maori woman called Rewi and they had one daughter
Matire(Matilda) and her descendants in NZ I recently made contact with.
Unfortunately very little is know about James, not even his nationality. So,
am trying to find links via Australian census records and possibly the
Maritime Records at National Archives.
