The very tiny hamlet of Poygan, Winnebago County, Wisconsin has the first Mongan to come to the area.

Hugh's brother Byan owned acreage called Farneykelly which is about 6 miles beyond Fuerty.

Hugh brought his entire family, fist settling in New York,( possibly Sulivan County, New York), and close by Wayne County, Pennslvania then traveling to the Poygan/Omro, Winnebago County, Wisconsin area by Ox Cart.

He is my 5xgramps, Hugh Mongan b. 1780 1855 married to Brigette Kavanaugh. They were married Febuary 11, 1811 in fuerty Parish, Diocese of Elphin, county Roscommon, Ireland. Hugh was the first buried in the area. He was buried in the Indian Cemetery until the "boys" came home from the Civil War. The parish church, St. Thomas Aquinas, was half buildt at the outbreak of the War. After the War, the church was completed and Hugh Mongan was exhumed and the first to be buried. He is the progenetor of almost everyone in the entire cemetery.

Hugh traveled with his daughter Mary Mongon married to John Flanagan. Mary and John Flanagan carried their baby daughter Mariah Flanigan in their arms. Mariah Flanagan went on to marry Civil War Soldier, Alexander O'Reilly, Co. D. 32Reg. Wis. Vol. Inf.

There is a wealth of information in the area, the cemetery as well as census for Winnebago, County. I have a copy of a book, Roses in December that was written by a cousin, Kathy Moore. There is a lot of information on Flanagans, Mongan's and O'Reillyis within.
