Hi Susan,
Thanks for the info. I have recently found several FORBES linked to the MUDIE/Moodie family in Scotland some of them seemed to have come to PA (and other places) as well which again is where a lot of our Ydna Moody cousins landed too.
I noticed the name of the company of Panton, Leslie & Co.
We also have a Ydna Moody line that married into the LESLIE family from the Ballymoney, Nor. Ireland area.
I have posted the links on this board earlier this year of it might have even been late last year, time flies so when you're having fun.(grin).
But we have a confirmed and proven via documentation as well as the ydna results, of a John MOODY b.c1835 whose father was given as James Moody. John Moody married Mary Ann LESLIE in 1856 in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Nor. Ireland. She was a daughter of a John LESLIE of the Balnamore area of Co. Antrim.
This ydna family line ties to the HOGG's (seen spelled many ways in the old Scottish records...Hoge, Houghe, Hog, etc. etc.) and our Moody's of this same line have also intermarried with the GETTY's.
I still believe we will eventually find that we link to the David MUDIE of Perth Amboy, NJ who came over from Montrose, Angus, Scotland in 1684/85 with two of his sons David and James MUDIE and several daughters and servants.
David, Sr's daughter Janet MUDIE married Thomas GORDON who was a son of a Robert GORDON from Pitlogie, Fife, Scotland.
It is Fifeshire, Scotland that another of our Ydna Moody lines hail from as well before going to Co. L'derry, Nor. Ireland and then some to Nor. America and some to Australia.
These inter-connections all seem waaay too common not to be linked. The families that were in Perth Amboy, NJ early on, some of them did go to SC, some went to Nova Scotia where we have yet another confirmed Ydna Moody line that also ties to our Fifeshire, Scotland and Australia line of Moody's and I think that's just a bit too overwhelming to discount.
Anyway, do you happen to know more about this LESLIE connection with the Panton company?OH, and did I mention that the David MUDIE of Montrose, Scotland to Perthy Amboy, NJ, his wife's maiden name was GAIRDEN/Gardner??She was Isobel/Isabella GAIRDEN but that last name was found spelled so many ways, it might have been GAIRDNER.
And the fact that I believe James Gairdener MOODIE's father Benjamin MOODIE is either a brother of, or somehow related to Dr. James MOODIE/Mudie of Jamaica whose daughter Janet MUDIE married Dr. William KEITH, whose family intermarried with our other Ydna MOODY family of Darlington, SC that went to southern AL and then to Louisiana, is also not a coincidence, I believe its showing more connections. Plus the CHISOLM link I told you about before. (James G. Moodie's daughter Caroline marrying Henry L. CHISOLM son of Robert Trail CHISOLM who sailed to "Great Britain" with James G. Moodie and whose Ydna I also share at a 60/67 match).I believe these families go waaaay back in time together in Scotland and probably back to Orkney as I mentioned because the Chisolm's were also of Norse line and were in Orkney too. (Chisholm/Chisolm/Chism genealogy).
And of course lastly the fact that our Nova Scotia Moody's state that their earliest known ancestor a James MOODY came to Nova Scotia from New Jersey sometime in the mid 1700's. Very possibly a descendant of David MUDIE's son James MUDIE or his son David MUDIE, Jr. I do know that this family has ties to St. Croix which in turn could lead to yet another connection with Dr. James Moodie/Mudie who was in Jamaica for a while.
I think there IS a link here and hopefully some day we will find it as it will Really open up our larger Ydna Moody family tree.
Thanks again so much for your input.
