Posted by: melissa1 (ID *****1156) Date: August 04, 2011 at 08:14:34
In Reply to: interesting will info from McQUISTON's of Co. Antrim, No. Ireland 1800's by melissa1 of 11595

from the IGI records WITH Sources cited (records taken from the OPR's), based on the information taken from some of these McQUISTON will extracts and the Other Surnames mentioned within them, and the mention of Thomas McQUISTON in Renfrewshire, Scotland in one of them, the very area where Robert McCUISTON/McQUISTON who came to New Castle, PA/DE in Aug. 1735 with family which included our Ydna Thomas MOODY b.c1710 who married 1st to Jean McCUISTON/McQuiston, I searched in Co. Renfrew, Scotland's OPR's and found the following interesting marriages and births:
Allan MOODY christened 1746 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotl. - parents John MOODY and Agnes ORR[see my orig. post to this thread where the ORR children were mentioned in the McQuiston will].

John MOODY christen 1748 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew son of John MOODY and Agnes OR[sic]

William MOODIE born July 14, 1750 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew son of John MOODIE and Anne ORR.[note she is alternately called Agnes and Anne]
same parents as above John and Agnes) had a daug. Isobell MOODIE christen. 1753 at same place.
In same batch and same place and same time frame there is a James MOODIE born July 15, 1757. He is possibly a son of the John and Agnes/Anne MOODIE/Moody too.

Agnis [sic] MOODIE b. May 1766 same place to same parents.

Thomas ORR christ. Mar. 1714 Kilmacolm, Renfrew, Scotland to parents John ORR and Agnes DENNISON. [both of these surnames are found many times in my own family tree in Maine where many of the Scotch-Irish came early on in the 1700's which intermarried with my Moody family].

new batch - going back in time a hundred years...
John MOODY b. Oct. 25, 1679 at Abbey/Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland son of Hugh MOODY (it is Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland that Robert McQuiston/McCuiston was said to have come from).

Jonet MOODIE b. June 19, 1678 same place as John above, daughter of William MOODIE
Janet MOODY b. May 4, 1680 Paisley, Renfrew daug. of Ninian MOODY.
Gawin MOODY b. Marh 8, 1685 son of Ninian MOODY [NOTE - in some of the PRONI MOODY will extracts that I noted earlier, there was a reference to someone in one of the wills with the first name of "GAWIN". I had not seen this name very often before so it must be an old Scottish first name?? I don't know for sure, just making a note of this].

Jean MUDIE christ. Mar. 23, 1679 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland daug. of John MUDIE and Margaret SCOTT. [the Scott family intermarried with some of our Ydna Moody's who link to those from the Balnamore/Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Nor. Ireland area...thought this might be showing an earlier link of the two families too].

William MUDIE christ. Feb. 1682 Kilbarchan, Renfrew son of Thomas MUDIE and Margaret SHAW. [This early Thomas MUDIE could be our link]

Elizabeth MOODY christ. June 14, 1724 Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland daug. of Edward MOODY and Janet MORRISON.
(we have found the Morrison name intermarried with the MOODY's that link to the MOODY-GAGE families of Nor. Ireland that we are about 99% certain via other documented genealogy etc., links to our Ydna Moody families, so wanted to add this inter-marriage too in case it later reveals anything further for us)

Donald MOODY christ. May 1782 Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland son of John MOODY and Janet MORRISON (another inter-marriage of a Moody and Morrison).

William MOODIE b. Apr. 1795 Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland, parents - James MOODIE and Camillia WILSON
James MOODIE b. Apr. 1797 Paisley, Renfrew to same parents as William above.

John MOODIE christen. Nov. 1751 Greenock, Renfrew son of John MOODIE and Jean COCHRAN.

John MOODIE christen. Apr. 1742 Paisley, Renfrew
son of John MOODIE and Mary GILMOR[sic Gilmore]
William MOODIE christ. May 1745 same place to same parents above.
Matthew MOODY christen. Feb. 1758 same place to same parents as above (brother to John and William in other words).

Daniel MOODIE christ. Apr. 1778 Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland son of Archibald MOODIE and Anne McMath.

This one has no solid source cited but it did have a full birthdate given and this family is known to have connections to our Alexander MOODY and Priscilla DICK Ydna line of Lenamore/Magilligan, Co. L'derry, Nor. Ireland so wanted to add it...
Eliza Helen Moodie BAIRD b. Jan. 5, 1834 Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland - parents Archibald BAIRD and Margaret MOODIE.

Janet ORR christen. Mar. 1713 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, daug. of John ORR and Agnes WILSON.

Alexander WILSONE christened Nov. 1713 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, son of John WILSONE and Shushan[sic? Susan??] OR [sic ORR]

Daniel ORR b. Sept. 1750 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland son of William ORR and Mary HENRY (a person of the last name of HENRY was a witness on one of the McQuiston will's that I saw recently).

Thomas MOODIE b. Dec. 13, 1754 christened on Dec. 15, 1754 at the Low Church in Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland -
parents Matthew MOODIE and Janet KER [sic Kerr]
these same parents also had a daug. named Janet MOODY in Feb. 1757, christened at same church, they also had a son Andrew MOODIE b. June 5, 1759 and he too was christened at the same church, and a daug. Jean MOODIE b. Feb. 28, 1762 christened at same church to parents Matthew MOODIE and Janet KER[Kerr].

Agnes RANKIN b. Feb. 1751 christened a few days later in Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland parents James RANKIN and Agnes _____?

From an early marriage record with No Source cited but full marriage date and place is John MUDIE b.c1653 of Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland married Janet LYLE on April 25, 1678 in Kilbarchan.

Others of interest from Renfrewshire, Scotland records are as follows:
William CALDWELL christ. Aug. 1756 in Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland to father James CALDWELL.
[Caldwell's have very very early links to the Gilbert MUDIE/Moodie/Moody of Ayrshire, Scotland and also to the MOODY's and McQUISTON's of Guilford Co., NC]

Thomas CRAUFURD [sic - Crawford] christened. Jan. 22, 1716 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland son of Thomas CRAUFURD and Jean SHAW...their children Robert, Jean and James CRAWFORD were also christened here.

James CRAUFURD christ. Nov. 1718 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew to parents James Craufurd and Marien WATSONE.

Joseph DONALD b. June 1796 christened June 1796 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland to Robert DONALD and Elizabeth KERR.

A George HOUSTOUN had several of his children christened in Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, Scotland around c1734 too...Margaret HOUSTOUN, Williame Houstoun, and Anne HOUSTOUN [are they the HOUSTOUN's linked to the Thomas MOODIE and Jean McKENZIE family that link to the Robert HOGG in West Lothian, Scotland that came to the Carolina's and an Anne MOODIE married a George HOUSTOUN and they lived in Savannah, GA??]

Margaret HUTCHISON christ. Jan. 1731 Kilmalcolm, Renfrew, her mother is listed as Jean HUTCHISON.
also an Isabell HUTCHESON christ. Jan. 1745 same place to same mother as above.

Ann McAUSLAN (McCausland) b. Mar. 1794 christened same place Kilmacolm, Renfrew, Scotland to Peter McAUSLAN and Elison[sic Allison?] LUGTON. [the McCausland name has showed up amongst some of the MOODY-GAGE family tree].

Camilla MOORE b. Jan. 1778 christened Jan. 29, 1778 Kilmacolm, Renfrew, Scotland to John MOORE and Marion PARK.
[some branch of the MOORE family was linked to the McQUISTON's as noted in the wills].
***************************************
That's enough for now, but again, I believe these early inter-marriages may be showing that our connections to these same family names that our Moody's and McQuiston's continued to marry into and have aquaintances with even after they went to Nor. Ireland and still even after they immigrated to Nor. America, could very likely be some of the same lineage lines and branches of our growing family trees.
I hope I didn't make too many typo's even though I noticed I was spelling Kilmalcolm incorrectly, apologies, it appears to be Kilmacolm, Renfrew, Scotland.
Hope this may be helpful.
