wow! you are right there are so many people in our family history that it is a hard search and even more so when you are straped for funds.
this is my link that I have found fron the Ancestry.com
1920 Census Laurens,South Caroline
Ruben R Moody Bd, 1905 Grandfather
his father & mother
John Moody & Mary A McCoy and other son is Dwight L.
Dwight L 's First wife was Vird.

Found John as Johnie Moody 5 in 1880 Census with
Charles Moody & Elizabeth
Julia 18
Richard 16
Pickens 10
Sarah 7
Abraham Brown orphan Child at age 7

1850 Census in same area of South Caroline
Charles is Charley

Richard Moody & Hala
Salathiel
Madison
Dimysim
Cranford
