Hello Patricia,
While there are others who used to post on here that know a lot more about the Clement Moody of Exeter, NH line than I do these days, I can tell you that he is among one of the earliest Moody lines in New England.
It is supposed though to date, not proven, that Clement may be a descendant of Ingram MOODY who was a Scot POW who came to Boston in 1650 when the ship "Unity" landed there with about 150 Scot POW's from the Battle of Dunbar.
These men were captured by Oliver Cromwell's army in Sept. 1650 and marched to Durham, England where they had to winter in the old Durham Cathedral Church. Then it was decided that they would be transported to the America's where they would become indentured servants to whomoever would take them on.Turns out that Ingram MOODY apparently had some knowledge of ironworks because that's where he ended up...at the Lynn, MA (Saugus) Iron Works.
He never seems to have left there. In an early 1600's census or documentation of some sort (I can't remember exactly now, but I believe it was a 1667 census), Ingram had 2 sons. One named after him only the name was spelled as "Engram" Moody and it is ~Possible~ due to the age of the other son, that he might have been "Clement".
This again, has never been proven, but to the best of many researchers (myself included, I spent YEARS researching this line as at one time I was convinced it was my line too), but anyway, all arrows seem to point to and evidence seems to suggest that this Ingram MOODY was very possibly the father of the earliest Clement MOODY (b.c1661 I think) of Exeter, NH.
The inter-marriages between the Other Scot POW families early on in the Exeter area with the Clement line is one of the very solid leads of evidence.
At any rate, there is a great deal of info on this board regarding the Clement line including much documented info and details on here as well.
A man by the last name of "Anderson" did a great deal of research on the Clement MOODY line many years back for the NEHGS I believe and a lot of that info is posted here too.
It is probably among some of the best documented history about the Clement Moody family tree.
There are a Ton of errors concerning it now though so and its very easy to become confused and overwhelmed by it all.
The Clement Moody line of Exeter, NH is one of the earliest though, and if you link to that family tree you are among the lucky ones Genealogically speaking because there is SO MUCH info out there about him going all the way back to the mid 1600's.
Hope this is a bit helpful for you.Just type in INGRAM in the Search box on this board and that should start the ball rolling for you as to the info about Clement.
Good Luck to you in your research.
