Regarding the TWO Robert MoodEy/Moody's that continue to confuse so many, myself included, today after a bit of research, I found the following and have now compared the two and this is just my own take on the separation of these 2 men, but I believe this may be correct.
From the Rev. War rolls and the DAR records comes the following info.:
Pvt. Robert MOODY (spelled as they have it), b. 1752 Ireland d. Dec. 13, 1838 in Dauphin Co., PA (was part of Lancaster Co.). This Pvt. Robert MOODY served in Capt. Harman's comp. and Col. DeHaas reg. in the 1st Battalion...6th Comp. 6th Battalion and appears to have enlisted around Oct. 25th, 1779 in what was then called Lancaster Co., PA.
Another entry for him has him as follows:
Robert MOODY - rank - Private of Lancaster Co. [PA] 9th Battalion served under Capt. James WILLSON and it says he was "on a touer[sic?] of Duty."
General Return Muster Roll (5th, 6th & 7th classes) - 1781.
The DAR records have the following:
Robert MOODY - Private b. 1752 Ireland d. 13/13/1838 Dauphin Co., PA
Capt. Harmon and Col. DeHaas 1st Bat.
SPOUSE - "MARY" HutchiNson and it says his residence was in Cumberland Co., PA.(perhaps this is taken from his Pension records).
From an old book entitled The Centennial Memorial of the Presbytery of Carlisle [PA] Vol. 2 on pg. 184 under the heading of Rev. John MOODEY, D.D.
it says that this Rev. John Moodey was b. July 4, 1776 and of Scotch-Irish race and that his father was Robert MOODEY, Esq. who was from L'derry, Co. L'derry, Nor. Ireland who came to America around c1773 and who settled in Cumberland Co., PA. It goes on to say that Robert married Miss "MARY" HutchiNson in Jan of 1775 (might have been an Intent to Marry date as other have their marriage in April of that year). It continues to say that Robert served in one or more campaigns as a soldier in the Rev. War and afterwards removed with his family to the part of Lancaster Co. which is now known as Dauphin Co., PA.
It tells how Rev. John Moodey married Miss Elizabeth CRAWFORD in Dauphin Co. on April 1, 1802.
More to follow soon....
