Barbara, this scenario seems quite likely given all the common names that my 3rd G-grandfather (Daniel K.) used for his children. "Elizabeth Quimby" Moody for one of his daughters and "James Chase" Moody for his last born son. "James" may have been the 1st name of Daniel's father and we know for sure that "Chase" was the 1st name of Daniel's wife's father (Chase Sargent.) Also for all you Civil War buffs, James Chase Moody served in the 9th Maine Regiment at the end of the Civil War and is burried in the Ridge Road Cemetary in Plymouth, Maine along side his mother (my 3rd g-grandmother), Eliza (Sargent) Moody, and his wife. (Who's name escapes me at the moment!)
