Thomas & John MODI from Dundee, Scotl. in 1312
Posted by: melissa1 (ID *****1156) Date: July 20, 2012 at 08:23:39
  of 11595

From an old book publ. in 1887 called Calendar of Documents Relating to Scotland 1307-1357 Preserved in Her Majesty's Public Record Office London which was edited by Joseph Bain comes the following names:
Thomas MODI, Esq. of Dundee and John MODI, Esq. of Dundee in the year 1312!!
John's name is actually entered in Latin as Johannes MODY on one page but in the Index as shown above.
Also listed in this book under Hostages for King David's Ransom under Edward III dated Oct. 3, 1357 is the following entry....
Reynold filz et heire de sire William More,
Gilbert filz et heire Johan KENEDY
Another entry on another page
has Gilbert MacKASKY (Makaskel) constable of castle and keeper of Ilse of Man his compotus audited Easter 1316. Says he was senschal of Man (?) and that he died after Easter in 1319.(The CASKEY's are linked to our Moody's a couple of times via marriage, as were some of the Kennedy is possible these folks go back this far in time in Scotland. One of our Ydna cousins said that our Moody family came from the Dundee area of Scotland so these two very early MODI's (spelled in a form of the Norwegian MODDI spelling of our name), could be important.
In the Index of this book pg. 527 says that John KENNEDY, his son and heir named hostage for King David (July 1354);
Gilbert [Kennedy] his son [that is son of John], and heir delivered to the sheriff of Northumberland on Oct. 3, 1357).
Since we have shown that the Rev. James MOODY of Newry son of John MOODY and Elizabeth SHANNON are linked to our Ydna family tree and that James Moody married Frances KENNEDY daught. of Rev. Gilbert Kennedy and Elizabeth Laing/Lang whose family tree no doubt goes back to this very John and Gilbert Kennedy, I again feel strongly that these family's go back together this far in Scotland's history together.
Hope this may some day be helpful.
