Hi there,
Yes, I did finally find my Native ancestor through new found cousins.
My Allen's were all from Maine as were most of my family as you know. All I know is that my line stems from a Walter Allen of Kittery, ME and it goes something like this, but no one seems to know exactly where he came from.
Walter Allen b. c1643 ~possibly~ England (but he might have been a Scot POW too for all I know)
married c1671 possibly Kittery, Maine to Elizabeth ALLEN (prob. a cousin) who was b.c1650.
Walter and Elizabeth had the following children:
James, Elisha, Abigail, Samuel, Joseph, Thomas and John ALLEN all born in York Co., Maine.
Walter married a 2nd time to a Mary HOLMES but I have no children listed for them. Walter died sometime after 1720 prob. in Kittery, York Co., Maine.
That's basically all I have for him.
His son Samuel Allen was born c1682 and was married to a Jane COOK prob. in Maine but I'm not sure.
I found 2 new cousins in Maine who were sisters. One said our Native family was Mi'kmaq from Quebec, Canada to Maine, the other sister said we were Passamaquoddy from northern Maine, so who knows?I just say we are a combo of both or neither and probably Penobscot. (laughs)
I did find out that my 4th grt. grandmother was a MITCHELL and she was the Indian, so my line of native decent is much further back then yours is.
In Maine the Mitchell's were among some of the healers and medicine people and this is where I believe my "Dr. Joe" received his training so to speak. There's just too much to tell, but it appears that's the line.
It took me Forever to find all of this out, but it has finally come into very narrow view.
Well I've got to go post some more info from the Rev. War I just found in my old copies while cleaning up this mess of a room.
