Thanks for these Gilman websites, Melissa.Interesting reading about the Gilmans.Four years ago when I visited Exeter NH, we toured the Gilman Garrison. Two sawmills owned by the Gilman family operated across the street on the Squamscott River.Around 1719 John Gilman Jr operated a tavern at the Garrison. It seems to me that the lady who gave the tour mentioned a Nicholas Gilman in reference to this house.
Other historic notes are that "in 1803 Nicholas Gilman build a carding mill to comb wool fibers for yarn at the upper falls in the village."
It seems to me that the wording of the Exeter death record would indicate that Capt. N. Gilman was of Exeter; the young Moody he took in was from Raymond.Perhaps this young Moody could be a grandson of Daniel Moody and Esther Moody Moody.Exeter was a thriving town with many mills by 1795 so a young man could find a job in that town.
I'll do more research on the Captain N. Gilman.
Thanks for your input.
Barb
