Hi Debbie,
If your Moody's came from PA there are great chances that they are indeed Ulster-Scots. My Dad's ydna has been linked to two seperate Moody families who came to PA via Northern Ireland in the early 1700's and another line who came in the early 1800's I believe.
My own 5th grt. grandfather was a James Moody born c1750 whom I cannot find hide nor hair of so am beginning to think his father was one of those Banished to the America's from Scotland in the early 1700's. However the ydna doesn't lie and we do have one exact match to a Moody line in Nova Scotia who also claims to be of "Irish" descent and whose family married into several Scottish family lines as did my own Moody family.
My James Moody named his 2nd son Joseph and he in turn named a son Joseph and that name was used in my family repeatedly as was the name James as well as John, William, Edward and Daniel.
Around c1735 a Thomas Moody came from Co. Londonderry, Ireland to PA (prob. landing around New Castle, DE but lived in PA), he then removed to NC and some of his descendants did indeed move to TN.This is one of the lines that my own family ydna is connected to.
This line of Moody's came over with the Scottish family of McQueston's (various spellings of this last name) to whom they married into a few times.
You might do a Search on this Moody page for some of the names or places you are looking for as many many folks have posted a great deal of information on here now regarding the numerous and different Moody lineages.
Good Luck to you and I hope you find your family heritage.
If you have any male MOODY members in your family you might consider asking them to do a Ydna test.
We've had some Great Success with it and I speak for myself in saying that I never would have dreamed in a thousand years that my Moody family had Norse lineage in their ancient past, but the ydna revealed that, so its been quite an exciting journey and took my family tree to a whole other level of research.
Take care.
