Hi Carol,
My goodness sounds like you are having a time with your PATTON's as I am with some of our Moody's/Moodie's.
It can be quite confusing I know especially when you are dealing with dates going back that far.
I can't say that I will be of much help to you on them except to say that they continually pop up in our family trees and are a part of our ancient Scottish family tree as well, but in the old Scotland records the name is seen spelled anything from PATONE to PATOUNE/Patoun to PATTEN and just about any sort of concoction you can think of.
I also find it Very Interesting that your Patton's are/were living in some of the very same areas that our Moody's and other intermarried relations were. We had family in the Waxhaw's, Buncombe Co., and SC, TN, ARK and AL too.
What makes these early Ulster-Scots so difficult to find is that as you have noted they MOVED around So Much!!
Its difficult to find birth records for them or any other records for that matter unless they purchased Land and you can locate a Deed, but a Deed will not typically list children's names. Will's were often not done and many have been lost to fires or wars or weather damage etc.Its really a shame.
I wish I could be of more help to you but as my main research revolves solely these days with the MOODY's/Moodie's, I don't spend as much time researching the other surnames as I once did. However, I Will keep my eyes open for you and any of these names you have posted here, and if I should find something, I will Post a Reply back to you.
Good Luck to you in your searching.
