Moonans from Collon

Anyone still use this site?

If anyone is there, I have had recent luck in that I found an old family bible that dates from about 1870. Per this bible, my original Moonan ancestor who came to the USA was George Francis Moonan. He was born in about 1803 in Collon, County Louth, and came to New York City some time prior to 1843 as his oldest son was born then in the USA. His wife's maiden name was Catherine Devin and she was born in about 1817 in Tullyallen, County Louth. Don't know if they were married in Ireland or in the USA.

They had 5 children: John born in July 1843, Michael Joseph born in July 1846, George born in Dec 1848, Mary Anne born in Jan 1852, and Catherine born in July 1855. Michael is my great grandfather, Mary Anne and Catherine died young, and I don;t know what happened to John and George.

There are still a number of Moonan families living in Collon and Tullyallen and these are very close to Drohega.
