Do you know where James Moonan was born? Or perhaps where his parents were born? The only male Moonan from my family to come to the U.S. was Patrick (Pax) Moonan and he came in the early 1900's after his sister, my grandmother, arrived in 1919. I don't know if she had other older relatives who may have migrated from Ireland, but it's possible. Let me know.
