Dear Susan, I realise that it is some time since you posted this query bu I recently found a census entry for 1901, RG13/14
London Paddington, St Johns
33 Cambridge Square
Harriet Armitage Head wid 73 Living on own means born Mexico, British Subject
Alice S Armitage dau S 32 living on own means London
Ellen Armitage daur in law M 35 living on own means New Zealand
Doris M. Armtage granddau 3 mths Ireland
Mary S Moorhouse visitor S 38 Trained sick nurse employed on own account New Zealand
Jessica Pollard Serv S 51 Cook domestic Horton Durham
Esther H. Horman serv S 33 waitress Emp own account Great Withersham Cambridge
Jane Dury Serv S 33 housemaid Kentish Town
Lucy Thorndyke serv S 17 kitchenmaid Tanncester Suffolk.
I have a theory that Ellen Armitage, the daughter in law may have been previously Ellen Moorhouse and perhaps Mary Moorhouse's sister. I think Mary was Mary Sefton Moorhouse who in 1893 is shown on the list of women registered to vote in the 1893 election in New Zealand. There she is listed as Mary Sefton Moorhouse of Wellington Hospital Nurse Wt Ci 9054.
The "Sefton" part of her name means that she would be one of the New Zealand Moorhouses of your family.
I have an interest in part of the Moorhouse family, namely Edward Moorhouse, brother of William Sefton Moorhouse, who married Mary Ann Rhodes and then moved to England to live at Spratton Grange in Northhamptonshire.
