Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for your response.
From information that I have:
Edward Moorhouse was born c1825, said to have been in Yorkshire. He was married 15 February 1855 (reg no 11a-85)at Tredegar, Abergavenny, Wales. The marriage certificate shows Edward as a labourer, his father, John also a labourer. Edward married Margaret Lyon (daughter of William Lyon, a bookbinder). Margaret is said to have been born c1821 on the England/Scotland borderlands.
At the time of their marriage they were living at Rhymney, Wales. Their age is not stated on the certificate.
Edward and Margaret left England onboard SS Australia on 14 October 1855 arriving Port Adelaide 22 January 1856. On the voyage their first son, John was born 28 October 1855.
The remainder of their family was born in South Australia.
- Edward b 1857 Port Adelaide, d 1859 Yatala S Aust
- Miles Edward b 1860 Queenstown S Aust
- Martin Lyon b 1862 Queenstown S Aust
- Margaret Mabel b 1864 Queenstown S Aust
- William James b 1866 Yatala S Aust. (my mother's grandfather)

Edward died, age 62 10 Sept 1888 at Yatala S Aust and Margaret Martin Moorhouse died age 81 on 7 Nov 1902 at Port Adelaide, S Aust.
Miles Edward was a clergyman but took up a teaching position in Tasmania where he met and on 18 March 1890 married Henrietta Ethel Richardson of Muddy Plains/Ralphs Bay area. On his recommendation brother Martin Lyon also moved to Tasmania and eventually Henrietta's sister Florence Emily Richardson.
Grandparents of the Richardson girls were transported to Australia as convicts - their grandfather being a former soldier in the 3rd Regiment of Guards.
In 1902 Miles, Henrietta and their family moved to Western Australia when Miles was recruited as a teacher
Eldest son of Miles & Henrietta as Henry Miles b 1890 in Victoria and youngest son was Cyril Lyon b 1901 Gladstone, Tas.
Martin Lyon & Florence had 7 children, other daughter you did not include are Florence b 21 May 1898 Hobart (died same day), Sarah Margaret b 25 August 1901 Hobart and Daisy b 12 May1903 Hobart.
Margaret Mabel married George Dodson and raised their family in South Australia
My mother's grandfather, William James moved to Melbourne where he married -17 August 1889 Mary Ann Hayes (b 2 December 1866, Birmingham, Warwickshire)and raised their family of 8 children.
One of William and Mary Ann's descendants was honoured with an OAM Order of Australia Medal for her work with orphaned children in Chad, Africa.
Any further information you are able to provide on the families of Edward Moorhouse and Margaret Martin-Lyon would gladly received. It has been a long held family belief that through the name of LYON there is a family connection to the BOWES-LYONS however no documentation to support this belief.
Thank you again for your help
Regards
Alan Young
