I have an ancestor from the southern states and share the frustration of working on this name in the south. My ancestor was George C. Morey, found earliest in Pulaski Co. GA where he married l845 to Keziah Atkinson. They next show up in Baker Co. GA in l850 census. He died ca l855 in a wagon accident and left several males, one of which leads to me.
I have been unable to find any direct leads for him in earlier records.
The l850 census shows him born in NC. but I have had no luck finding any connections. The GA records show very few which could be construed as Morey, Moree, Morea, etc. However I have collected every instance that I come across for any variation in GA.
Recently I found some evidence in FLA files that possibly my Geo may have lived in Fla as a child, but no absolute proof.
Perhaps we could exchange some info by email and see if we could help each other.I will be gone on a week's trip, beginning tomorrow but if you are interested, let me know.Thanks.
