KATHRYN SMITH 9/12/00
i have the following gt gt gt gt grandparents, born estimated around 1775-1765
malcolm morison married mary clark and john mitchell married henrietta faulls. daughter of henrietta and john was janet mitchell baptd may 1792, at mearns , county renfrew. janet married malcolm morison 5 june, 1813 at greenock west. a son neil morison married henrietta latta 1837. their son malcolm morison was the onewho immigrated to melbourne, australia about 1870 probably to pan for gold at ballarat, victoria.
that's all i have.
my mother's father was john morison born melbourne 1873, mother elizabeth macfarlane, born county derry abt 1847.
john had a cousin in the uk, sir john morison, who had researched the family history. it turned out that somewhere back in the medievalages they were a family of sheep rustlers. as a punishment they were banished from the scottish mainland to the isle if skye, and they also had to drop a "r" from the morrison name to mark them out and to add injury to insult, someone had an ear cut off.
i have been told that if you check the family crest of the morison clan it shows
an open face, ie two sides but the good ear showing. i can't vouch for this.
i believe there are proportionallymore morisons in australia than the uk. please stay in touch but i am not back to the 1600 yet. thanks
