Reece Vandever Morrel 1795 SC
I am searching for the parents of Reece Vandever Morrel. He is thought to have been born in the old Camden District in South Carolina April 25, 1790.Family stories claim that Reece was orphaned and that his father was a doctor. He served in the Tennessee Militia in 1813 and 1814 under Captain Bailey Butler. On September 23, 1819, he married Rachel Carlisle, daughter of William and Nancy (Kirkpatrick) Carlisle.William was born in Guilford County, North Carolina on November 18, 1764.Rachel was born April 23, 1801.Reece and Rachel settled first in Jackson County, Tennessee where they were probably married.Rachel's grandfather (Robert Kirkpatrick), father and several brothers moved from Kentucky to Jackson County about the same time.Reece and Rachel had twelve children, all born in Jackson County:John Montgomery, William Hamilton, James F., Hiram Robert, Charles C., Ralph DeKalb, Alexander F., Fleetwood C., Green Wood, Rachel, Margaret Evelyn, and Nancy Abigail. The family moved to Navarro County, Texas between 1843 and 1845.
Many researchers have attempted unsuccessfully to connect Reece to one or another of the Morrel lines, particularly the Morrell's from New York/New Jersey and the Morrell/Morrall/Murrell's from North and South Carolina. We have also pursued many possible Vandever/Vandiver links. There seems to be an obvious connection as well with one of the Montgomery lines, reflected both in the names of Reece's eldest sons and in the service record of Carlisle's and Montgomery's in Reece's Tennessee Militia Unit.
I would be happy to share extensive information on these families and would appreciate information that may be hidden in someone's files.
