Hi, My family went by Martin/Martinson in the U.S., but they have been impossible to find under that name in the Norway census. I'm wondering if they could have actually been Mortinson. They were Martin and Gurine, who immigrated around 1890 and stayed in New Jersey. They had six children, who also emigrated between 1887 and 1890. In the U.S., their names were Samuel, Lena (Lina), Margaret (Magda Marie Hansine), Agnes, George and Thomas. Thomas is my grandfather. I'm very frustrated in trying to find where in Norway they came from. Some of them also used the surname Halvorsen at times, with various spellings. I noticed your relative was in New York around the time mine were in New Jersey and New York. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks, Tom
