Can you site the exact source on that marriage record for John Morton and Nancy being a Scarborough? If that marriage date you have were to be correct, it means that he was married more than one time and so that marriage record, source and page becomes very important. I believe he only really had one child born after 1820 who is recordable.........After WWII my mother spoke with his granddaughter who said that the Scarborough woman who was in the home in the census was there to help care for him because he had Parkinson's Disease and was not Nancy's mother. Earliest known record to exist about John's children was a record in Blount County AL where he was asked to prove the race of his children whereby they could attend the Cherokee Mission School in Brown's valley, not all of his children were listed at the time but may not have been old enough for school when this was done. Records located in the archives in Columbia SC do not confirm the marriage you listed. Your exact source, page and file number could clear up any confusion.
