James Mosby 1848 - 1926 in Arkansas and Oklahoma

James Wesley Mosby (my 3rd Great Grandfather), born in 1848 in Washington County Arkansas, married Martha E Marrs in 1878 in Washington County, Arkansas. They had, best I can tell, 10 children.

James served in the Civil War, first in Company M, then Company A of the 2nd Regiment Arkansas Calvary. He moved to Grove Oklahoma in or around 1900 (could be earlier, however 1890 census records are missing), and he died in 1926.

Many trees I've seen that belong to others claim that John Singleton Mosby (famed Colonel in Confederate Army) is his father. I have doubts about this.

JS Mosby would have been 15 at the time that JW Mosby was born. While not impossible, it's highly improbable. Given the notoriety of JS Mosby, and the many books, biographies, and historical accounts of his life (including his childhood), had JS fathered an illegitimate child at the age of 15, we'd likely have heard about it already and there would be documented evidence of such (birth records, mentions in publications, etc). I have seen no such domented evidence, and would like to know if anyone else has.

According the Federal Census records, James Wesley Mosby's father was born in Tennessee. Same records indicate his mother was born in either Tennessee or Arkansas.

I'm trying to put that record together. I'm looking for information about James Wesley Mosby's parentage. If you have information, documents, or suggestions - please share.

Thank You!!
