Sally A. Mosby 1761-1808 born Dec. 25 in Goochland County VA, Died 10 miles N.E. of Lexington, Kentucky, June 7, 1808. Married Wm. Grant III, May 25, 1789, Burbon county , Kentucky.. Her husband was captured and killed by the Potawatamie Indians during the War of 1812. There were three children:Eliza, b.1793:Samuel moseby Grant, b. 1794: Wm. Grant IV, b. 1796. Sally Mosby was the daughter of Capt. Samuel Moseby died 1787 and Jerusha Bowles. Sally A. Mosby's sister, Mary(Polly) Mosby, sally's sister, married Wm. Grant's oldest brother, Jr. Colonel John Grant. Wedding was at the John Grant home.
Three spellings of the Mosby name are found in the records- Mosby and Moseby were on the marriage bond. You can search the Douglas Register (Goochland Records, by William douglas, Episcopal Rector of the Parish St. james Northam, and St. James Southam, the first north of the james River, in Goochland County- there are these entries:

Samuel Moseby was commissioned Captain in Militia at the September Court of Goochland County 1760.
King George granted 1200 acres of land in New Kent County to John Bowles in 1719. Samuel Mosby, was the son of Edward and Jerusha-the daughter of John Bowles. John Bowles most likely gave Samuel Mosby some land in New Kent or Hanover when he married Jerusha. Their daughter Susannah, was born in 1739. Samuel Mosby's will is on file in Dobson , Surrey Co. North Carolina. He sold his land in Goochland County in 1765.

Edward Mosby of Henrice County, Virginia circa 1660, died 1742 is probably the grandfather of Samuel. We don't know through which of Edward's seven sons.
