Samuel Mosby of Covesville, VA
Posted by: Veronica Mosby Date: January 18, 2002 at 15:35:33
  of 1044

My grandfather is Samuel James Mosby, born in Covesville, Va (Nelson County) in 1872. He is one of seven siblings. Parents are Sam or Samuel and Charlotte Mosby. They had a farm. I am looking for information concerning the children and their descendants. Also, it is alleged that my grandfather died in a house fire in 1930 or 1931, but I am unable to find any information on this. I would like to locate his gravesite and the gravesite of my great-grandparents. My great grandfather, Sam Mosby, was born about 1846 in Va,and his brothers are Simon, Wilson and Robert Mosby. I have met the descendants of some of these brothers; however, none of my grandfathers siblings. I am looking for information and/or the names of the parents of the brothers. This may not be possible to locate. I am not sure if the brothers were born slaves, unable to determine this information. Finally, I am trying to locate my grandfather's first wife, name unknown. Again, it should be noted that these individuals are of African ancestry. Thank you for any assistance. As a postcript, it is possible that they were born on the plantation owned by John S. Mosby's family. In his bio, it is indicated that his father did own slaves.
