Can't remember the exact details, but I read in the book, "Rebel" that the name Singleton was a neighbors name. Something to the effect that the neighbor might show him favor (money, gifts, etc.) if he was named after him. Sorry I can't be more specific. Just moved and can't find the book ;o)
