Mitochondrial DNA of Martha Ann MOSS Dixon, and her mother Pinky Moss

I am posting the following information here so that all of the descendants of Pinky Moss will know what her mitochondrial DNA reveals about some of their ancestors (see below).

My great-great-great grandmother Pinky Moss (please inform me if you know her maiden name) and I inherited the same mitochondrial DNA.

Family Tree DNA recently tested my mitochondrial DNA (see results at the bottom of this letter).

My Martin cousin Malinda Black Poole, the widow of LDS Bishop Edgar M. Poole of Gaffney, SC, provided me with some of the following information about my matrilineal ancestors.

1) Pinky (maiden name unknown) and husband (first name unknown) MOSS. I especially want to know who the matrilineal ancestors of Pinky Moss were.

2) Martha Ann MOSS DIXON died about July 1873, about six months after the birth of her daughter Laura Ann DIXON. She married John David DIXON about 1865. He was born about 9 July 1842 and died about 25 Nov 1920 (if your have a copy of his death certificate, please email it to me).

3) Laura Ann DIXON (23 Jan 1873 - 23 Nov 1947) married Wade DAVIS about 1893 and continued to use her maiden name after he died. He was born about 1870 and probably died between 1898 and June in 1900. Her death certificate states that her parents were Martha MOSS and John DIXON, and that she was a widow and born in Union, SC.

According to sheet #18 of the June 25, 1900 census of the town of Blacksburg in the Cherokee Township of Cherokee County SC:
a) Laura Ann DIXON was born in Jan. 1873. Can a Laura Ann DIXON also be found in the 1890 and 1880 census records?
b) She was a widow. Her husband Wade DAVIS probably died after the conception of his daughter in 1898 and before the census was taken in June 1900. Can a Wade Davis be found in the 1890 and 1880 census records of SC?
c) Laura Ann DIXON Davis was the mother of only one living child.
d) She and her father and mother were born in SC
e) She could read, write and speak English
f) She had no occupation
g) She was a boarder in household #308, headed by Samuel and Susan CHILDERS.

4) Martha Jeanette Ellen DIXON (7 Oct 1898 - 2 Aug 1930) married Israel M. MARTIN (27 May 1889 - 24 Oct 1915).
According to sheet #18 of the June 25, 1900 census of the town of Blacksburg in the Cherokee Township of Cherokee County SC, she was born Oct. 1898, so she was about 1 year and nine months old. She and her parents were born in SC. Is she also listed in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records of SC?

Please inform me if you can answer any of the above questions.

DO WE HAVE THE SAME MITOCHONDRIAL DNA?

FTDNA reported that my mitrochodrial DNA belongs to Haplogroup - T2b

If your mitochondrial DNA matches the following pattern, we have the same recent matrilineal ancestors.

Mitochondrial DNA reveals the following information about some of the ancestors of all of the descendants of Pinky Moss.

The following excerpts are from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_T_(mtDNA)

"Notable people of haplogroup T

"The last Russian tsar, Nicholas II, has been shown to be of haplogroup T. This was established when genetic testing was done on his remains to authenticate his identity. Assuming all relevant pedigrees are correct, this includes all female-line descendants of his female line ancestor Barbara of Celje (1390-1451), wife of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor. This includes a great number of European nobles, including George I of Great Britain and Frederick William I of Prussia (through the Electress Sophia of Hanover), Charles I of England, George III of the United Kingdom, George V of the United Kingdom, Charles X Gustav of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange, Olav V of Norway, and George I of Greece.

"The American outlaw Jesse James has been shown to be of subgroup T2.

"Haplogroup T is a human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroup. Haplogroup T derives from the haplogroup JT, which also gave rise to haplogroup J. Haplogroup T is believed to have originated in Mesopotamia approximately 10,000 years before present, and to have moved north into Europe and east as far as India. It is found with particularly high concentrations around the eastern Baltic Sea."

I agree that Haplogroup T entered Europe after the end of the last Ice Age, i.e., after Europe warmed up enough for farming. I do not agree that Haplogroup T originated in the Near East over 45,000 years ago.

About the peak of the last Ice Age 20,000 years ago, nomadic hunter-gatherers who belonged to Haplogroup T (referred to in the Bible as being the descendants of Ham) left northern Africa and settled in the forests of Canaan. Everyone who has a blue-eyed ancestor descends from this branch of mankind. They became the first farmers and created the first permanent settlements. Since they domesticated themselves by removing criminals from their gene pool for many thousands of years, their neighborhoods and nations have usually been the most secure, prosperous and scientifically and technologically advanced. After they invented irrigation, their civilization spread along the Nile and Tigris and Euphrates rivers and thereafter into all other Indo-European, i.e., Indo-Hittite, homelands.

Compared to the descendants of Cro-Magnons, descendants of Haplogroup T tend to be more adapted to the heat of the Sahara. The following traits helped people who belonged to Haplogroup T to survive in the region of the Sahara called the Sahel. The are likely to:
1) Be pink-skinned (blood circulating near the surface of the skin dissipates heat)
2) Be dolichocephalic - narrow heads dissipate heat better than brachycephalic (round) heads.
3) Be tall and thin - stocky people retain heat better
4) Be relatively hairless except for their head hair
5) Have fair-hair and skin - to reflect heat better.
6) Have relatively large, protruding noses that help humidify the dry air of the Sahel.

Cro-Magnon hunter-gatherers emigrated from northern Africa to Europe between 40,000 and 45,000 years ago, towards the end of a warm phase of the Last Ice Age, so that is the genetic distance between Cro-Magnons and the descendants of Haplogroup T (a.k.a. Indo-Europeans and Indo-Hittites).

The descendants of Cro-Magnons have larger torsos and darker and more hairy skins than Haplogroup T, and tend to be more brachycephalic, short, stocky and short-limbed. The descendants of Cro-Magnons are better adapted to the forests of Europe during the latter 30,000 years of the Last Ice Age, when permafrost and glaciation pushed them into southern Europe, where their descendants still live.

The following excerpts are from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

"The swastika is one of the most common symbols used throughout Baltic art. The symbol is known as either Ugunskrusts, the "Fire cross" (rotating counter-clockwise), or Perkonkrusts, the "Thunder cross" (rotating clock-wise), and was mainly associated with Perkons, the god of Thunder. It was also occasionally related to the Sun, as well as Dievs (the god of creation), Laima (the goddess of destiny and fate). The swastika is featured on many distaffs, dowry chests, cloths and other items. It is most intricately

"The symbol has an ancient history in Europe, appearing on artifacts from Indo-European cultures such as the Indo-Aryans, Persians, Hittites, Slavs, Celts and Greeks, among others. The earliest consistent use of swastika motifs in the archaeological record date to the Neolithic. The symbol was found on a number of shards in the Khuzestan province of Iran and as part of the "Vinca script" of Neolithic Europe of the 5th millennium BC.

"The swastika is considered extremely holy and auspicious by all Hindus...
