I thank "Linda in Oregon" for her response. I am also sending a copy of this letter to the email address that she posted at http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-genforum/email.cgi?843205385 so she can write me privately at my new email address.

MY EARLIEST KNOWN MATRILINEAL ANCESTOR

According to the census records, my earliest known matrilineal ancestor Delilah was born about 1802, died before 1880, and married Arthur MOSS. Arthur lived from about 1800 to 1880. They were born in SC and lived in York County, SC. Their daughter Martha Pinkney "Pinky" MOSS, a.k.a. Martha A. Dickson, was born in 1833, died July 1873 in SC and is buried in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery near Blacksburg, SC, Latitude: 35.1136877, Longitude: -81.4937993. Pinky and John David DIXON (born about 9 Jul 1842, died about 25 Nov 1920) were the parents of my great grandmother Laura Ann DIXON. Laura was born 23 Jan 1873 in Union County, SC and died 23 Nov 1947 in Spartanburg County, SC. Delilah MOSS was Laura Ann DIXON's great grandmother.

I do not know if Pinky Moss married the father of her children. She was a teenager and probably suffered after SC attempted to free itself from the Federal Empire. "English matronyms were frequently given for reasons other than illegitimacy... A child of a strong-minded woman might also take a matronym, as might a child whose name would otherwise be confused with that of a cousin or neighbour." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matronymic

MY FULL GENOMIC SEQUENCE MATCH

FTDNA informed me that Mr. Clifford Michael Rampey and I are a Full Genomic Sequence Match. Why does his name no longer appear in my Matches list at FTDNA?

I was able to easily trace nearly every branch of Mr. Clifford Michael Rampey's ancestry via the Internet. I hope his family will hire a professional genealogist to write a book about his ancestors.
