Sorry to be so long in replying.
At the Moss/Pendleton family reunion in Sept. I didn't have any luck with the "elderly" members of the family but my husband's cousin remembered that her grandfather had 2 brothers, Charles and William. From that information, I was able to pull up census records which led me to the names of Josiah's parents (Samuel Moss 1837-1900 and Nannie P. Shepard). Since my husband had an aunt Nannie and remembers his mother mentioning the name of Shepard, I'm pretty sure I have found the correct couple. From there, I was able to go further back in the generations.
If this info sounds like it may correspond with what you have, I would be glad to furnish you with the rest of the lineage that I came up with. This is for the Moss's. The Shepards are again at a brick wall but I'm working on it.
