The census record should read as follows: 1850 U S Census, West Salem township, Mercer, Pennsylvania page 409 taken 1st day of -------- [unreadable from my copy, possibly Sept] Dwelling 2252 family 2274 James [T; or I?] Mossman age 50 [about 1800], male farmer $400 value of real estate born Ohio Sarah Mossman age 34 [about 1816] female, born Ohio Osker Mossman age 14 [about 1836] male born Ohio Sylvester Mossman age 13 [about 1837] male born Ohio Leander Mossman age 4 male [about 1846]born Ohio Robert Mossman age 2 male [about 1848] born Ohio The name appeared to me to be Asher, but on further examination it is Osker, or as we would spell it Oscar. It is my proposal that Oscar and Sylvester belong to an earlier marriage. I would like to explore the possiblility that these are sons of Elizabeth Calvert b 1812 d 1838 as shown previously. I have found a James Mossman in the IGI who lived in West Salem twp Mercer Pennsylvania, who is reported to have married Elizabeth Thomsin in 1835. I would like to know what the resource is for that marriage. Can anyone out there help me on this question?
