Jan, my research led me to a young Mottershed child, age 6, who entered VA in the 1600's, and would seem to be the progenitor of all the American Mothersheads, establishing a dynasty in Westmoreland Co. VA
I believe Mottershed is German, though this child came from England. There is a Mothershead webpage documenting many foreign families. I found it by accident, so can't give the URL.
