In the Name of [“God” typed between lines] Amen, I James Trantham of the District of Kershaw and state of South Carolina Being Weak In Body but of Sound and disposing Memory thanks be to almighty God, Do make publish Constitute and Ordain this to be my last will and Testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all Former Will or Wills by me heretofore made, First of All I recommend my Soul to God who gave it me and My Body to be decently Buried in a Christian like Manner at the discretion of My Executors herein after Named, And as Touching what Worldly Property it has pleased God to Blefs me, I Give and desire in Manner and form as follows, That is to say, First of all It is my will and desire that all my just debts should be paid, on [out]of the proceeds of the Following property herein devised to be sold, It is my will and desire that the Land Whereon I now reside Containing Three Hundred [“and Fourteen” typed between the lines]- Acres more or Lefs should be sold by my Executors hereinafter Named also one other Tract of Land Containing Fifty Acres more or Lefs Adjoining Land of John C. McRae, also One other Tract of Land Containing Fifty one Acres more or Lefs adjoining Lands of James Fleming, Also my present Growing Crop of Cotton after it is Carried to Market, Also my Corp of Corn and all other Corp I may have on The plantation Together my Waggon and Gear Mill Stones and Botling Works Riding Chair, also my Stock of Every Discription Consisting of Horses, Cattle hogs and Sheep Household and Kitchen Furniture & plantation Tools, Item I Give and devise to my Loving Wife Mary Trantham a Negro Woman by the Name of Lynder together with her future Increase, and a Negro Man by the Name of Boston to her during her Natural Life and at her Death to be divided in the Following Manner as Will be herein after Named, Item I Give and devise to my Son George M. Trantham a Negro Boy by the Name of Lewis to

him and his heirs Forever, Item I Give and devise to my son Cyrus Tranthama Negro Boy by the Name of Ben to him and his heirs Forever Item I give to My son Jabin Trantham a negro Boy by the Name of Isaac to him and his heirs Forever Item I Give to my son James Trantham a Negro Boy by the Name of Stepney, alsoa Negro Girl by the Name of Lynder with her future Increase at the death of My Wife Mary Trantham to him and his heirs forever I also Give to my son James Trantham Money enough to give him a good English Education, Item I Give to James Mothershead Betsy Mothershead and Mary Mothershead, Children of my daughter Peggy Mothershead a Negro Girl by the Name of Eliza with all her future Increase Also One hundred dollars to them and their [“heirs” handwritten between lines] Forever to be Kept and retained in the hands of [“my” typed between lines] Executors herein after Named for the use and Support of My Daughter Peggy Mothershead and said Children as above named during The natural Life of My daughter Peggy Mothershead, Item I Give and devise to my Daughter Jane Rufsell a negro Girl by the Name of Milley with her future Increase to her and her heirs Forever I Give to Mallissa Trantham a Negro Girl by the Name of Phillis to her and her heirs Forever, I Give to my Daughter Mary Trantham a Negro Girl of the same Value of the Negro Girl Milley devised to my Daughter Jane Rufsell, which must be purchased by my Executors out of any Money arising from my Estate to her the said Mary Trantham with her future increase to her and her heirs forever, It is my will and desire that if more Money should bewanting than I have already Made provision to raise in that case it is my Will that Harry and his Wife Sally and her Child Charlotte should be sold but if necefsity does not require, it is my Will that they should be hired Out by my executors until my youngest Child James Trantham should arrive to the age of Twenty one years at which time I Give and devise the said Negroes and their future Increase if not sold together with Negro Boston which I have before devised to my Wife during her natural Life, Together with all the rest and residue of my Estate not Before devised to be Equally divided between My Children and Grand Children Namedly George M. Trantham, Cyrus Trantham. Jabom Trantham James Trantham Jane Rufsell, Malissa Trantham, Mary Trantham and James Mothershead, Betsy Mothershead and Mary Mothershead Children of My Daughter Peggy Mothershead, But the aforesaid James Mothershead Betsy Mothershead and Mary Mothershead is to draw but one share among them all, It is also my Will and desire that Negro Cain and Judith should also be sold or hired Out at the discretion of My Executors and to possefs in the same way as described in the residuary clause of this my Last Will and Testament, Lastly I nominate and appoint my sons George M. Trantham, Cyrus Trantham and My Friend [space]whole and sole Executors to this my last will and Testament In testimony whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal this [space] day of [space] in the year of our Lord 1823.
