Joseph Howard Hammett, 91, died May 21, 2008, at Community Hospice in Verona. He was born Oct. 30, 1916, to Teira Scott and Lee Hammett. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of TVA. He loved gospel and country music, bird hunting, vegetable gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends.
Services were at Corinthian Funeral Home with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.
Survivors included two sons, William H. Hammett of Corinth and Donald Ray Hammett of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; one brother, Haffard L. Hammett of Corinth; two sisters, Hilda Dowd Renegar of Winchester, Tenn., and Letra Smith of Corinth; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Richardson Hammett, on Dec. 23, 2002; his parents; his stepfather, Dennis Wigginton; two sisters, Leota Powers and Mabel Hannah; and a brother, Travis Wigginton.
