Beatrice Lou Owen, 88, died May 21, 2008, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born May 17, 1920, in Alcorn County. She was a longtime resident of Alcorn County and had lived in Lee County since October 1995. She attended the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church.
Services were at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth. Burial was in the Vanderford Cemetery.
Survivors included one son, Jim D. Owen (Marsha) of Tupelo; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Owen of Corinth; one sister, Mary Ailene Childers of Texas; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Clyde Owen; a son, James Lesley Owen; her parents, Mary Effie Strickland and William C. Hampton; three brothers, Dalton J. Hampton, Willie James Hampton and Alton L. Hampton; and three sisters, Ruby Lee Knight, Opal Earline Montgomery and Mattie Ruth Stutts.
