Carl Eugene Qualls, 80, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at the McNairy County General Hospital. He was a member of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church and a graduate of Northeast Mississippi Junior College. He was a retired construction worker for Worsham Bros. Construction Co. with 28 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as staff sergeant of the 74th Armored Tank Brigade and the 64th Chemical Warfare Unit. During World War II, he served in Tokyo, Japan, and Normandy, France. He was president of the Farmington Water Association for several years. He was president and co-founder of the Alcorn County Rescue Squad and an auxiliary deputy for the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department. He was a former member of the Democratic Executive Committee of McNairy County. He was a great father who loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Services were at Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church in Corinth. Burial with military honors was at New Farmington Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors included his wife of 62 years, Eloise Qualls of Michie, Tenn.; sons, Charles Qualls (Elizabeth) of Selmer, Tenn., Robert Qualls (Diane) of Acton, Tenn., Jimmy Qualls (Venessa) of Corinth and Gerald Qualls (Tracy) of Acton, Tenn.; one daughter, Peggy Qualls of Fort Payne, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kelda Ratonda Rowsey; his father, Casey Ellis Qualls; and his mother, Clara Hubbard Qualls.
