Charles William Clifton, 91, died April 20, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Corinth to Troy and Verda Clifton. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher of the John Baker Sunday School Class for more than 50 years. He retired from Corinth Coca-Cola after 20 years as production superintendent for the bottling plant. He worked for 25 years as an electrician for Jordan Timlake. He was an alderman for the City of Corinth for eight years. He was a member of the Corinth Gas and Water Board for 19 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Services were at Christ United Methodist Church with burial with military honors in Corinth National Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 55 years, Louise Franks Clifton of Corinth; two daughters, Patricia Andrews of Huntsville, Ala., and Jean Cornelius (James Larry) of Corinth; grandchildren, Clifton Cornelius (Rozanne) and Blain Cornelius (Amy), both of Corinth, and Clay Andrews of Corona, Calif.; great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, W.L. Franks of Jackson, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Wood; and two brothers, Tom and John Clifton.
