Ellis Jehue Smith, 93, died April 30, 2009, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility. He was born May 9, 1915, in Alcorn County, to Earlie and Lillian Gertrude Wilhite Smith. He was a member of the Glory Hill Church. He was a sawmiller, a farmer and a security guard. He loved to dance and play his harmonica.
Services were at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Survivors included four daughters, Virginia Taylor or Tishomingo, Eva Butler (David), Loretta Lancaster (Robbie), of Memphis, and Debbie Wells of Burnsville; three sons, James Smith of Booneville, Anthony Smith (Martha) of Michie, Tenn., and Billy Smith of Memphis; a brother, Elbert Smith of Burton; a special friend, Beverly Poczok; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Syble Smith, in 2005; a daughter, Ozella Smith; a brother, Herbert Smith; a sister, Beatrice Gann; and two grandsons, Paul Ray Taylor and William Earl Taylor.
