Leon Woodruff Emerson, 90, died May 3, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. She was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Alcorn County to John W. and Dena Woodruff. She graduated from Glendale High School, she attended Miss State University and taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in the Glen community. She worked 10 years for Wurlitzer Co., and was a clerk for the Glen Post Office. She was a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, reading, flowers, traveling with her family. She was a friend to all, feeding the needy people in the Glen community.
Services were at Memorial Funeral Home chapel with burial in Forrest Memorial Park. Memorial Funeral Home in Corinth was in charge.
Survivors included her daughters, Kay E. Perkins (Jim) of Iuka, Frances E. Ivy (Davy Null) of Glen, Lynn E. Fielding (Cliff) of Iuka; son, John W. Emerson (Adelean) of Glen; sisters, Louise Bain, Dorothy Oakley and Jean Blassingame, all of Burnsville; brothers, R.C. Woodruff of Burnsville and Elder Cecil Woodruff of Corinth; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two foster granddaughters from Russia, Lena Klimcnko and Olya Melnikova; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wimpy Emerson; her parents; sisters, Lillian Childers, Faye Brown; brothers, Homer Ray Woodruff, John Roscoe Woodruff; and granddaughter, Amy Lynn Fielding.
