My gggrandfather John Martin Covington, living in Liberty MS according to 1850 Census, occupation druggist, was born in KY in 1818 and died in 1864. He married Mary Jane Washburn in 1857 in Amite Co. Children of John and Mary Jane were Mattie, Elizabeth, John, James and Emma. After the death of John she married William Gordon and was living in Shreveport, Caddo Parish La by 1880. Their daughters, Mattie married James Tate, Emma married Sam Flanagan and Elizabeth married Eli Simmons. Both Mattie and Elizabeth moved back to Amite Co to raise their families and the other childdren were in Gregg Co Tx and Bossier Parish La.
Mattie Covington's husband James Tate was supposed to have represented Pike Co in the MS State Legislative, how can I prove this? He died in Magnolia Pike Co MS in 1901, are there any newspapers available for Pike Co?
Who were the parents of John and Robert and where are they buried? When did Mary Jane Washburn Covington Gordon die and where is she buried?
Mary Jane Washburn and her sisters taught at the Liberty Women's Seminary with Rev Milton Shirk. How can I find some information on this school?
I know very little about this family and any help would be appricated.
