Mystery – Elijah W. Little (1833-1880?), just who were his parents? Some on line family tree individual entries show Rolly (Raleigh) Little and Nancy Ellison, however, the 1850 Attala Co., MS, census doesn’t list Elijah in this family, rather, Elijah, age 18, is found in the John and Ruthy Little family which would logically point to John, not Rolly. Rolly Little 53 GA Nancy 56 SC Jefferson 10 MS Sarah Ann 12 MS Elizabeth 10 MS Mary Ann 1 MS John Little 52 GA Ruthy 40 TN MS Elijah 18 MS MS Sally 13 MS Catherine 10 MS Nancy 16 MS It seems Raleigh, Samuel and John Little, all found in Attala Co., are brothers, all born in GA. – children of William and Betsy Howell Little. Now in the 1860 Attala Co., MS, census one finds Elijah W. Little married to Nancy Ann E. Rosamond; the family includes 6 month old daughter Mary (sic Melissa) and Nancy’s parents, Samuel and Francis Rosamond. Elijah Little, 27, MS Nancy E., 26, SC Mary (sic Melissa), 6/12, MS Samuel Rosemond, 69, SC Francis, 68, SC What happened to John and Ruthy Little? Interestingly and perhaps coincidently, in Holmes Co, Dark Corner, (no joke folks) one finds this family: Rufus Wood, 25, AL Ruthy Wood, 57, TN Elijah Little, 26, MS ….where did this Elijah Little come from? Sarah Wood, 26, MS Catherine Little, 21, MS - Wilson, 23, SC Now you see the mystery – the above Elijah with names of sisters and first name of mother from the 1850 census in which John Little was the father point to a possible second Elijah – the one who married Nancy AE Rosemond, but, WHO WERE HIS PARENTS? Or is a single Elijah who happened to be visiting his mother, now a Wood? Sometimes when one keeps digging one raises more dust than fact – further clouding the issue. Someone please help me. There has to be a researcher out there who has a lead for me! Sincerely, Tommie J. Clayton (2nd Great Granddaughter of Elijah W. Little and Nancy A.E. Rosemond) tjcgrc@swbell.net Notify Administrator about this message?
