1860 Federal Census - Attala County, Mississippi Page 32 of 240 Twp 15 R 7 P. O. Burkettsville 184 / 205 Charles W. Clark, age 39, Farmer, Born in SC Marinda M., age 40, born Ala .... Frances Campbell, age 17, Male, Born Ms .... Virginia A. Clark, age 15, Born Ms .... James A, 13 .... WM. C, age 11 .... MARY, age 9 .... Benjamin, age 7 .... Caroline E, age 5 .... Susan C, age 9/12 (Note: I'm fairly certain that this is a son of James G. Clark. They live in the same township as Frances.) 186 / 207 Thomas D. Savage, age 46, Farmer, Born in SC Martha C, age 39, Born in SC .... Harriett E, age 16, Born in Ala .... J. Hampten, age 12, Born in Ms (Note: This is the last record we have of Thomas and Martha C. Savage. The notes of Elizabeth Webb said they moved to Florida.) 208 Joseph H. Mayett (Myatt), age 46, Farmer, Born in NC .... Charles W, age 13 .... Robert A, age 11 .... Joseph W, age 9 .... Martha H, age 7 .... John M, age 4 (Note: This is also the last record of Joseph H. Myatt. Myatt researchers say that he died shortly after the 1860 and the children were scattered. Most ended up in Texas. The Myatts here were living in Township 15. That would have been near the Bethel Cemetery where the Clark relatives were buried. It is a strong probability that J.H. Myatt, Nancy Webb Myatt, Micajah Webb, Harriet Benson Webb, and Joseph N. Webb were buried in the Bethel Cemetery. There are many unmarked graves near the Clarks. Perhaps they were once marked. Broken stones were eventually removed.) 205 / 231 Frances Clark, age 60, born SC (Note: Frances Webb Clark is in a household by herself in 1860. She was probably still living in the home near Bethel Cemetery where her brother Micajah Webb died in 1850.) 1860 Federal Census - Attala County, Mississippi Page 123 of 240 Twp 16 R 7 E P. O. BURKETTSVILLE 751 / 833 Martha Croft, age 41, born SC .... John, age 24, Labor on farm, born in Ga .... James, age 22 .... William, age 20, born in Ga .... Madison, age 18, Male, born in Ms .... Mary, age 14, born in Ms .... Araminta, age 7, F, born in Ms (Note: Because of the proximity of Martha Croft and her family to John B. Webb and Sarah, this makes her a good candidate to be Sarah's mother, although she would only have been 15 at the time of Sarah's birth. Also, if the seven-year-old girl in the census is Martha's, then she can't be the daughter of the William Croft who died in 1850. Note, however the twenty year old William Croft. Would he be a son or a grandson of William Croft? That raises the other possibility -- that Martha Croft was married to an older brother of Sarah Croft. There is no husband, which most likely means that she has been widowed. Another possiblity for the young girl is that she is a granddaughter of Martha. One thing that is indicated is that these Crofts had South Carolina roots and that they migrated through Georgia to Mississippi.) http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/1860census/1860census123.html 752 / 834 John B. Webb, age 30, Farming, born SC Serah (Sarah), age 26, born in Ga .... Ann, age 6, born Ms .... Jane, age 4, born Ms .... James, age 1, born Ms (Note: John B. Webb very often went by J.B. Webb, as Robert B. Webb went by R.B. Webb. Doing that was pretty popular at one time. Note that Sarah was born in Georgia, which means her Croft family was there in the early 1830s. By 1870, J.B. Webb and Sarah would be in Yell County, Arkansas, with these children. Little James was named James Warren after J.B.'s brother Warren. John Pinckney Webb, my mother's father, was born in December of 1866 after J.B. Webb came home from the Civil War service. Another son, Charles, or Charlie Webb would be born.) http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/1860census/1860census007.html 1860 Federal Census - Attala County, Mississippi Page 7 of 240 Twp 14 R 7E P. O. Griffeth, age 21, Clerk, Born in Ala .... Robt R. Boyd, age 18, Born in Ms .... Wm. M. Baccus, age 23, Book keeper, Born in Ga (Note: R.B. Webb married late and was considerably older than Matilda Boyd. The eighteen year old Robert Boyd is probably her little brother. Evaline here was the one who was called Eva and went to the University of Mississippi. She was named after Robert's sister Nancy Evaline Myatt. The Charles Webb here is a clue to Robert's past. This Charles is the ancestor of Dr. Charles M. Webb, ret., of Greer, North Carolina.) http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/1860census/1860census134.html 1860 Federal Census - Attala County, Mississippi Page 134 of 240 Twp 16 R 8 E P. O.
