Cynthia, I checked the Attala County Cemetery Book for you; found three Bufords, but none of them were James F. Buford.

I also have a listing titled "Some Attala County Deaths not listed in Attala Cemetery Book," compiled by Mrs. Joyce Sanders. Joyce extracted this lengthy list of deaths from the diaries of Judge Jason Niles.

In that listing, I found the following item,

19 May 1880 "Buford died not long ago, lived 15 miles north of Kosciusko."

The date is the date on which the Judge came by the information, not necessarily the date of death.

Do you happen to know the d.o.d of your James F. Buford?

By the way, if you find a Buford who was a country school teacher, I would like to learn who that might be.
