George Washington Vaughn is buried in the Vaughn-Pettypool Cemetery in Benton County, MS. He was born 20 Oct 1816, d. 21 Jun 1871. His wife was Mary Marion Pettypool, b. 9 May 1827, d. 25 Aug 1890, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Morgan Pettypool. Two of his sons are buried in the same cemetery, Samuel P., b. 10 Jul 1849, d. 15 Aug 1849, and William N., b. 14 Oct 1851, d. 9 Sep 1853. There is a long article on George Washington Vaughn in the book, Early Families of Benton County. He was the chief organizer of Benton County and his wife named the county and the County seat.He and Mary Marion had twelve children. Send me an address and I'll send you a photocopy of the article.
