I am seeking information on my grandfather, George Curtis Michie, who moved to Merigold between 1909 and 1910. He died May 1, 1930, but I am not sure that it was in Bolivar county; my mother, now deceased, told stories of living in Sarasota in her youth, and I am not sure if it was before or after her father died. George Curtis Michie was one of the founders of the Merigold Hunting Club, a revolutionary consevation club outside the levee founded in 1921. I remember hunting there as a youth in the late forties and early fifties. He also managed a major plantation between Merigold and Mound Bayou: it is likely that this is the reason that he moved here from Nebraska.
