There was an early settler named Daniel Adair. Prior to the Civil War, his home was picked as a voting precinct by the board of police; I've seen the entry in the minute book. Black Hawk, now, that's a very old settlement, and I understand the Methodist Church there dates from prior to the statehood of Mississippi. (A fellow I saw at Black Hawk Saturday was telling me this.) There was a college there, that was moved and became, Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.
