DeWitt W. Clark, of Shannon, 55, foreman for the State Highway Department, was fatally injured Sept. 28, 1954 when he fell beneath an asphalt machine at work on a new portion of Highway 41 south of Pontotoc. He was born and reared at Houlka where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Clark live. He had resided in Shannon for about 25 years. Funeral services were held at Shannon Baptist Church on Sept. 30 with burial in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Houlka. He was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church and was a Mason.
Survivors included his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Oren Long of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Sybil Clark, of Tupelo; two sons, Thomas Clark, stationed with the U.S. Army at Camp Gordon, Ga., and Wayne Clark of Sweetwater, Tenn.; five sisters, Mrs. J. H. McLaughlin of Vardaman, Mrs. Darrell Morphis, Mrs. Mitchell Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Reginald Griffin, and Mrs. Lloyd Cole Johnson, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, J. T. Clark Jr., and Hester Clark, both of Houston, Miss.; and his parents.
